MUH 5010 HAYDN, MOZART, AND BEETHOVEN
This seminar examines one of the crucial periods of music history, the transition from the middle of the eighteenth century to the era of Beethoven. Through the works of the era's three outstanding composers, we will understand the development of classic genres, the changing world of patronage and public concerts, and the establishment of binary- and ternary- based musical forms. Class work will require listening quizzes, two examinations, and a major analytical or historical paper.
