BIO 1019 Introduction to Marine Environment

This introductory class will provide an overview of both physical and biological aspects of the earth146s oceans. Physical characteristics to be discussed will include area, depth, temperature, salinity, pressure and the importance of water movements. The biology of ocean communities will also be examined, ranging from primary production in phytoplankton communities to macroinvertebrates, fish and marine mammals. Emphasis will be placed on nutrient cycling and biological diversity within marine ecosystems. Not for major credit.
