CHM 3049 Chemical Biology

This course presents organic chemisty in the context of molecules important in biochemistry and cell biology. The relevant functional groups, stereochemistry and reaction mechanisms are explained in relation to carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids, with extra attention for structure-activity relationships and kinetics of enzymatic reactions. Prerequisite: CHM 2002 and CHM 2006; CHM 3035/3036 are recommended. (Spring, alternate years)
