POS 5093 THE U.S. AS A PACIFIC POWER
This seminar examines the conduct of United States foreign policy in East Asia in war and in peace. After a rapid survey of US expansion in the Pacific through World War II, the focus of inquiry will be on the Korean War and the Vietnam War, the two major wars the United States fought in the Pacific region in the post-World War II, followed by a study of the Asian economic crisis of 1997 and its sequel, political and economic reforms of the countries in the Asian and Pacific Rim.
