CAM.3071 Minorities and the Media

This seminar emphasizes the consumption, analysis, and discussion of stories created and consumed by minorities in the media. The course encourages techniques of close reading through textual analysis and grounded theory, and further allows for engagement with deconstruction and critical thinking about media texts produced by marginalized communities. In an effort to elevate otherwise minoritized voices, the course presents case studies exploring creators that hold identities of: BIPOC, immigrant, womxn, gender non-conforming, LGBTQ+, lower class, Native, disabled, and much more. The course centers the importance of intersectionality and addresses the complexity of holding many identities.
