ENG.3043 Sin and Redemption in the Renaissance

The Renaissance was fascinated by images of Adam and Eve, the Fall in from grace in Eden, and the notions of sin and redemption. In this course, students will dive into the study of how historical writers such as Dante and Shakespeare were influenced by the stories of the Christian Bible and used these stories to produce great works of literature. The course will culminate with the reading of Paradise Lost, a poem in which John Milton retells the story of Adam and Eve's initiation of sin into the world. As with all ENG 3000-level courses, this course will culminate with students writing a 12-page research paper.
