POS.1037 International Politics
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic ideas, concepts, and critical challenges facing the global community in the 21st century. The course will introduce students with a framework for understanding international politics that centers in interests, interactions, and institutions, and how they shape major issues in global politics today. Students will focus on how different state and nonstate actors interact within the scope of existing formal and informal institutions, to general outcomes across various issues pertaining to global politics. Issues will be woven in throughout the semester, and include environment, armed conflict, nuclear proliferation, nationalism, global trade, technology, poverty, and human rights. Students will also learn about alternate perspectives to dominant approaches, including works that center feminist, antiracist, and decolonized perspectives.
