RAD.1030 Radiographic Pharmacology and Venipuncture

This course is designed to provide an overview of the role of Radiologic Technologist in the use of pharmacology and venipuncture. Students will learn the six rights of medication administration, drug nomenclature, drug classification and general pharmacologic principles. An in-depth look of drug categories relevant to radiographers along with its uses and the impact to patients will be evaluated. The course provides overview of contrast agents, indications, contraindications, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving strategies for patients with contrast enhanced studies. Various concepts in patient care are introduced, including: routes of drug administration, venipuncture sites, methods of injection, and current practice status for the radiographer's scope of practice.
