CSCH.3032 Becoming a Better Bystander
Every day, we encounter moments that test our willingness to act; whether it is speaking up against injustice, helping someone in distress, or challenging harmful norms. Drawing on research in psychology, sociology, and real-world case studies, this seminar will examine the conditions that promote or inhibit bystander helping behavior and apply these lessons to contemporary issues such as bullying, discrimination, and allyship. Through reflection papers, collaboration, and hands-on learning, students will develop practical tools for becoming more aware, compassionate, and socially responsible bystanders in their communities.
