FRN.2060 Lost in Translation: Hollywood Remakes of Popular French Comedies
This course will examine Hollywood remakes of popular French comedies. We will watch and analyze French original and its American remake and study how they highlight differences (and perhaps similarities) in humor and laughter in the US and in France. We will also examine how the films depict notions of class, gender, and sexuality and how they are perceived in both cultures. Finally, we will analyze the films in context and discuss how they reflect the socio-political situation in France and the United States during the different periods (Taught in English)
