Transfer Credits
With the approval of Advising or the relevant program director, matriculated masters and advanced certificate students may typically transfer up to six graduate-level credits toward their degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution with comparable curriculum and standards to those at Manhattanville University, provided that the coursework is determined to have the necessary learning outcomes, is appropriate for the student’s program, the student has earned a letter grade of B+ or better, and the coursework has been completed with the last ten (10) years. Additional transfer credits beyond the 6-credit maximum, but not in excess of 50% of required courses, may be considered at the discretion of the program director. Students entering the Master of Science (MS) in Family Nurse Practitioner or Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing programs may transfer up to 12 credits with the approval of the program director.
No courses graded Pass/Fail can be accepted in transfer unless the transferring institution can confirm the student's level of proficiency to be equivalent of a B+ or higher. Credits for capstone experiences, student teaching, or practica completed elsewhere cannot be transferred to Manhattanville from another institution.
All students must submit a written request to have course credits approved for transfer, and are strongly advised to request approval from Advising or their program director for coursework to be transferred before courses are taken. Acceptance of transfer credits cannot be guaranteed.
In all cases, faculty may request a course description and/or a syllabus to facilitate review. It is the student’s responsibility to verify that the coursework will earn/has earned official graduate-level credits and a letter grade. It is also the student’s responsibility to ensure that Manhattanville receives an official copy of the transcript for a transfer course. Transcripts received too close to graduation deadlines may delay a student’s graduation.
No credits can be transferred to a Masters degree program from a Masters degree completed at another institution.
Transfer Credit Limits for Doctoral Students
Students admitted into the Doctoral program are permitted to transfer up to 12 credits of post-masters coursework taken at a regionally or nationally accredited institution with comparable curriculum and standards to those at Manhattanville University, provided that the coursework is determined to have the necessary learning outcomes, is appropriate for the student’s program, the student has earned a letter grade of B+ or better, and the coursework has been completed with the last ten (10) years. Approval of transfer credit for doctoral students is at the discretion of the Doctoral Admissions Committee.
Students in the Dissertation Completion Pathway of the Doctoral Program may transfer up to 39 credits into the 59-credit doctoral program, with approval of the Doctoral Admissions Committee.
