SPRT.2040 Investigating Sport
Sports journalism is often equated with box scores and game recaps, but at its most impactful, it plays a central role in holding its institutions and individuals accountable. In this course, students will examine the role of investigative journalism in the sport's world. Through critical analysis of landmark reporting, students will study how journalists use rigorous research methods to uncover hidden truths about issues that include doping, corruption, sexual abuse, labor exploitation, and systemic discrimination. The course will emphasize the journalistic practices and ethical frameworks required to report these stories as well as their lasting consequences on the sports industry and society writ large.
