Continuous Enrollment Policy

Effective: Spring 2026

All students admitted to degree programs at Manhattanville University, unless they are on an officially approved Leave of Absence, are required to be continuously registered throughout their degree program, from their first semester of enrollment through their graduating term. This is defined as being registered for at least one credit of coursework in each fall and spring semester.*

Students who are continuously registered will have access to faculty advising and campus student services, including but not limited to the university library and campus computing services, as well as access to labs and/or studios appropriate to their program of study.

Students who fail to maintain their continuous enrollment, and who are not on an approved Leave of Absence or have not paid a fee to Maintain Matriculation (see below), will be administratively withdrawn from their academic program.

* For students in the Educational Leadership doctoral program (EdD), fall, spring, and summer are considered required semesters.

Leave of Absence (LOA)

A Leave of Absence (LOA) is permission to be away from the university temporarily, whether it is for medical, financial, or personal reasons. Students must seek approval from Advising in order to process the request. Students are typically permitted to be on leave for one term, and extensions to an approved leave will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Students who do not re-enroll in classes after their approved Leave of Absence has ended will be subject to Manhattanville’s Continuous Enrollment Policy, whereby non-enrollment will result in administrative withdrawal.

Maintenance of Matriculation (MoM)

Students may seek permission from Advising to enroll in Maintenance of Matriculation (MoM), a 0-credit course which will allow them to receive continued access to University resources (faculty advisors, university library, etc.) for a term in which they are not actively enrolled in credit-bearing courses. Enrollment in MoM will incur a $100 fee. MoM is primarily intended for students who are in the process of completing outstanding course or degree requirements. Doctoral students must complete all academic program requirements prior to petitioning for Maintenance of Matriculation. More details on criteria are available below.

Readmission Procedure

Students who have not maintained continuous enrollment and who have therefore been withdrawn from the University are required to file an application for readmission through the Manhattanville University Office of Admissions. Such students are required to meet the existing admission standards and program requirements in place at the time of reapplication.
