ENW.5810 Advanced Multi-Genre Workshop

This course allows for an extended, semester-long revision of a major piece of writing in a genre of the student's choice. Course reading will focus on examples of revisions, including comparison of published work and earlier drafts. Extensive conferencing will offer suggested reading and revision strategies tailored to the genre choices and individual needs of students in the course. The backbone of the course will be weekly workshop critiques, which will offer students significant written and oral feedback on their pieces. At the end of the course, students will be required to present a selection of their work. As this course is at the advanced level, students are expected to demonstrate a strong command of craft techniques in their chosen genre as well as an avid interest in continuing to read in their genre and to add to their command of craft. The expectation is that the work students complete during this semester will contribute significantly to their respective thesis project.
