Study Abroad Programs
Manhattanville offers the opportunity to visit the world. Our highly regarded connections with international institutions, colleges, universities, and providers make living and studying abroad an even more appealing option. Spain, Italy, France, Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, South Africa, Japan, Costa Rica, Argentina, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand are just some of the major countries that you can add to your academic and life experience. Our very competitive programs range from specializing in the arts, humanities, and social sciences to programs in globalization, leadership, and health and community concerns. Whether your desire is to study politics, the European Union, or Asian fine arts, Study Abroad makes it happen.
The Office of International Students and Study Abroad guides students through the research, application, and approval phases for overseas study. Manhattanville offers three types of programs to successful candidates to further their education through international institutions: direct exchange, cooperative, and independent. Students interested in the programs offered should work with the Study Abroad advisor as early as possible. The University will only award transfer credit toward the student's degree for coursework approved beforehand. Student must maintain full-time status while away.
Selection Process
Once a timely completed application has been received, it will be reviewed by the Study Abroad Selection Committee. Applications will be reviewed, and decisions will be made according to following criteria: Program rationale, strength of recommendations, placements available, and fit with major/career goals. Direct and cooperative placements are subject to available funding. If you are not selected for a direct exchange or cooperative program, there is always the option of an independent program.

Direct Exchange Programs
Courses from Manhattanville direct exchange programs are calculated into the student's cumulative grade point average.
The programs and institutions listed below are direct exchange agreements between Manhattanville University and the academic institution cited. Direct exchange opportunities are with the following universities:
- University of Roehampton (London, UK)
- National University of Ireland, Maynooth
- Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier III (Montpellier, France)
- Kansai Gaidai University (Osaka, Japan)
- Keio University (Tokyo, Japan)

Cooperative Study Abroad Programs
Cooperative study abroad programs are options for study abroad with American and foreign institutions around the world with which we have an affiliation agreement and/or are offered by a third-party provided for which students can receive academic credit. For students with a solid GPA (at least 3.0) there exists the possibility of acceptance to one of the Manhattanville "cooperative programs.” All students interested in exploring study abroad can work with the Office of International Students and Study Abroad to identify appropriate programs and learn about the application process. Independent Study Abroad Programs
For students who cannot meet the criteria of the direct exchange or cooperative programs, many independent possibilities exist. Note that students on independent programs are not able to utilize their Manhattanville institutional aid for their experiences. Financing independent programs relies entirely on the student's federal or state financial aid and personal funds. Credits for non-cooperative programs will be issued as transfer credits only in block format; individual courses and grades will not appear on the transcript. Internships
The Manhattanville Internship Program offers students an important link between the academic and professional worlds. The University's location in southern Westchester County, near New York City and Fairfield County, Connecticut, offers easy access to many nearby corporate, governmental and not-for-profit organizations, where students gain valuable experience in internships that complement their course work. The Center for Career Development assists students as they identify and apply for internship opportunities.
In order to be eligible to register an internship for credit, students must have the following requirements:
- Completed 30 credits of coursework
- Declared their major
- Must be a matriculated student
Note: Academic programs may stipulate additional requirements for eligibility to participate in internship.
After completing 30 credits, students can integrate their academic studies with supervised work experiences by doing an internship on a part-time basis during the academic year or on a full or part-time basis during the summer for academic credit. Students usually register for internships under their major programs and must secure a faculty advisor from that program. Working with their faculty advisor, students identify learning objectives and formulate an academic project related to the internship. The Center for Career Development also supports students in a variety of ways during their internship course and acts as a liaison between the student and employer. A maximum of nine internship credits may be applied to the degree.
Internships for International Students
For Manhattanville's international students, the Internship Program enhances the experience of studying abroad. In addition to the benefits of enriching course work with practical experience, internships provide international students with an introduction to U.S. businesses and professions. To be eligible for an internship, students must declare a major and complete 30 credits. The Office of International Student Services works closely with the Center for Career Development to ensure that all legal requirements are satisfied in arranging internships for international students.
