ART.4060 Weaving as Sculpture
Weaving for sculpture is an introductory course using floor and tabletop looms. Students will learn about various materials and techniques of this most ancient of arts. Students will learn loom terminology and anatomy, weaving vocabulary and techniques, project planning, designing drafts for the loom, weaving structures, choosing yarns, understanding fiber structure, and problem solving. Students will learn how to use mixed media sculptural elements combined with with weaving, such as clay, painting/canvas, wire, rope, plaster, wood, and paper. By the end of the course, students should be able to plan and execute complete projects from start to finish. Students will come to appreciate weaving and the fiber arts in its historical context as well as using it as a means of contemporary art.
