CSCH.3300 Empathy
This course will examine the intellectual, scientific and historical origins and contemporary work around the concept of empathy. We will be examining empathy through a number of disciplinary and theoretical lens, including psychology, literature, theatre, health, communications, business, leadership, and design thinking. Using readings, reflections, and experiential learning, we will explore and experience empathy. Students will develop individual or small group projects that apply their learning to a particular problem, with the purpose of developing empathy either in themselves or for others. Final presentations will also examine the value and limitations of empathy.
