NUR.2000 Maternal and Child Nursing

The student is introduced to the fundamental concepts of growth and development in the childbearing family. Students will understand the nature of pregnancy, fundamental principles of labor and delivery, nursing care of the mother and newborn, and influence of community on the family. Common illnesses and disorders of the newborn and the child will be discussed. The psychological effect illness has on a child will be addressed. Throughout the course, family centered care will be emphasized and the effect of culture will be discussed.
