POS.3012 Environmental Politics
This course will examine several critical debates within global environmental politics. It will focus on the political causes and consequences of environmental problems, with a focus on key actors, interests, and institutions involved. Students will learn about the roles that key actors in international politics play in environmental politics, including states, corporations, non-governmental organizations, and citizens. Students will explore how power manifests in the relationships among and between states, peoples, and other actors, and contributes to climate vulnerabilities. They will study the current state of the climate crisis and the roles played by key actors, such as states, corporations, and non-governmental organizations. They will learn about the relationship between climate and capitalism, and alternate approaches to environmental politics, such as climate justice, feminist approaches, and climate orientalism. Students will learn about climate resilience and adaptation, with a focus on specific programs run by states and development organizations.
