SPN.4000 Junior Seminar: Special Topics
This course is a survey of Contemporary Latin American Theatre from an analytical and critical perspective, highlighting its origins and its present while using an appropriate vocabulary. Some topics will include indigenous performance, absurdist, dictatorship, revolution, terror, human rights, violence, memory, women, etc. We will analyze and criticize the work of several playwrights and how they grapple with cultural and political circumstances in their countries. We will also examine some trends of the XXI century. Students will read plays, watch videos, and attend at least one play at Repertorio Español in NYC.
