WGS.2100 The Struggle for Freedom: Literature by Black and Latinx Women
This course is an inquiry into the writings of Black and Latinx women. The course will look at how dominant narratives have marginalized women of color. We will examine the concerns these women have with representations and the ways womanhood is characterized through the paradigms of race, gender, sexuality, and social class. We will also look at the ways in which these women writers examine issues such as social and political identity, religion, language, etc. Our analysis will focus on how these works simultaneously stand as criticisms as the same time that they advocate for change.
