BIO.5005 Developmental Biology

How does the fertilized egg give rise to the adult body? How are the body's specialized organs and tissues formed? How do cells become committed to a particular fate? This class will explore classicaldescriptions of various stages of embryo development as well as the molecular and genetic control of vertebrate development. Goals of the course are to gain an appreciation for the events in the biological development of animals and the differences between classical model species, and also to gain experience in experimental procedures such as formulating hypotheses, designing experiments, interpreting results, and writing formal lab reports.
