SPRT.3068 Spectators and Fans

This course examines sports fandom and spectating from its origins in ancient times until today. While the majority of the content is focused on sports fandom in the United States, a significant portion examines fandom around the world. Combined, this historical range and geographic diversity highlights the similarities and differences of fan cultures and experiences across time and space, pointing students toward critical examinations of race, class, gender, space, and consumption in the sporting world and beyond.
