History

Introduction & Overview 

Studying history is essential to revealing the connections between the past and the present, and is fundamental to the understanding of what it means to be human. The History major at Manhattanville provides an overview of global history from ancient through contemporary eras. Students may also choose from many electives focusing on the histories of Asia, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean, and North America.  Many of our students have gone on to graduate school while others have pursued careers in business, documentary filmmaking, education, government, historic preservation, journalism, law, libraries, museums, and non-profit management. 

Students who career goal is to teach Social Studies and who are enrolled in the BA or the BA/MAT in Middle Childhood/Adolescence Education (Gr 5-12) Social Studies must complete the Social Studies concentration.
