The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre focuses on musical theatre performance. It offers professional-level study in singing, acting, and dance in the context of a liberal arts education. An audition is required to enter the program.

Entrance Audition

Candidates for the BFA Musical Theatre Program must pass an entrance audition to be admitted to the program. The audition, which can be live or by video on ACCEPTD, is evaluated by full-time faculty. Auditions are also used to recommend scholarship awards. Transfer students and students wishing to change their major to Musical Theatre are also required to audition.

Candidates are requires to perform from memory:

• Two contrasting songs, one up tempo and one ballad, in different styles.  These may be of any length.
• A short contemporary monologue
• For video auditions, 30-60 seconds of any style of dance. Those auditioning live will do a short dance call.

Applicants are selected based on their current achievements as well as their potential in all three areas of the discipline.

Music Performance

Due to the nature of the discipline, Musical Theatre majors perform progressive and cumulative assessments related to musical theatre performance. Solo and ensemble performances are evaluated throughout the four years, beginning with the entrance audition, and culminating with the Senior Capstone Recital.

A grade of at least C- is required for coursework, except in the Senior Capstone course, which requires a minimum grade of C.
