EDU.5608 Learning Environments in Science Education
This course prepares secondary science educators to design comprehensive, theoretically grounded, and equitable learning environments which promote scientific literacy and informed citizenry. Drawing on foundational works from the National Research Council and historical research in science education, students will examine six interconnected domains of Learning Environment design: (1) Philosophical and Theoretical Foundations, (2) Curriculum Development, (3) Instructional Methods and Strategies, (4) Assessment Methods, (5) Design of the Physical Space, and (6) Classroom Management Systems. Science educators will apply, synthesize, and demonstrate their knowledge across all domains through a culminating Learning Environment Design Portfolio.
