Rose Institute for Learning and Literacy
The Rose Institute for Learning and Literacy offers two Advanced Certificates.
The Science of Reading: Multisensory Instruction Advanced Certificate includes 2 three-credit courses based on research-based Orton-Gillingham methods for teaching literacy in a comprehensive and structured multisensory approach and is complemented by a two-semester six credit mentored practicum. Students completing all 12 credits will earn a Certificate of Advanced Study, Science of Reading: Multisensory Instruction and will be eligible to apply for OGAPE Classroom Educator Certification. Coursework can be applied towards a Master’s degree in Literacy or Literacy and Special Education (Gerald, please confirm this is still accurate). Courses can also be taken for professional development credit.
The Dyslexia and the Science of Reading Advanced Certificate includes 3 three-credit courses and 1 one credit course focused on dyslexia and research-based methods for teaching literacy to students with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities and is complemented by a two-semester six credit mentored practicum. Students completing all 16 credits will earn a Dyslexia and the Science of Reading Advanced Certificate and will be eligible to apply for OGAPE Classroom Educator Certification. Coursework can be applied towards a Master’s degree in Literacy or Literacy and Special Education.
The Institute courses or programs in themselves do not lead to NYS teacher certification.
