Undergraduate Admissions

Manhattanville admits individuals candidates for undergraduate degrees if their academic records indicate competence to engage in a challenging liberal arts curriculum. The Admissions Committee is particularly interested in a student's willingness and determination to participate actively in the process of his or her education. In considering applications for undergraduate admission, Manhattanville makes every attempt to evaluate students as individuals, each with his or her own unique capabilities for learning, and to appraise each one's capacity for intellectual and emotional growth.

Manhattanville participates in the Common Application Program. Students using the Common Application will be considered for admission in the same way as students utilizing the Manhattanville University online or paper application.

Application Procedure

Applicants must submit the following materials to the Office of Admission (Reid Hall) for evaluation:

  1. Application for admission;
  2. An application fee of $75.00 must accompany the application;
  3. Official transcript(s) of grades earned to date from secondary school or college;
  4. One (1) letters of recommendation to include one from a guidance counselor/transfer counselor and;
  5. Personal essay describing applicants’ goals and objectives;
  6. Standardized test scores (ACT or SAT), optional
  7. Students interested in Art, Commercial Dance, Imagining Leadership,  Musical Theatre, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, or Theatre , Music Technology, Musical Theatre or Art should refer to procedures for acceptance in the appropriate department sections .

Admissions Interview

A personal interview is encouraged and, in some cases, may be required. Applicants are urged to contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (914) 323-5464 to schedule an appointment. Interviews are conducted Monday through Friday and on select Saturday dates during the academic year. Tours of the campus are also available.

Art, Dance, Musical Theatre, and Theatre Students

BS Art 

For all prospective students wishing to pursue a BS in Art, you are strongly encouraged to submit a portfolio for review.  

Visual Portfolio should consist of:

15-20 works of art: Include drawings from observation. Consider your best and most recent work as a part of your portfolio. Presentation should consist of a variety of media and approaches. Include assignment-based projects, self-directed work and sketchbooks, and/or samples of creative writing.

The portfolio does not need to focus on a single discipline. Considered a variety of artwork, including paintings, drawings, printmaking, sculpture, photographs, ceramics, and digital art.

Try to limit the artwork using grid systems drawings and paintings 

Try to limit replicas of other artist's work, replicating anime drawings, cartoons, and video game character designs. 

 

BFA Commercial Dance 

Students wishing to major in Commercial Dance must audition either in-person or submit audition materials through the acceptd.com platform. Manhattanville prefers that all applicants within 100 miles of campus schedule an on-campus audition.

Audition Requirements for BFA Commercial Dance

  • A dance resume detailing when, where, and how long you have trained, your performance experience and any other skills you may have
  • A headshot and/or photo.
  • Transcripts from most recent schooling

Commercial Dance Audition

Prepare a 2-minute dance piece. Modern, ballet, or jazz. It may be performed with or without music. Please bring your own recording. Choreography/choreographer is your choice. Wear clothing that is comfortable and appropriate for a dance audition.

BFA Musical Theatre 

Students wishing to major in Musical Theatre must audition either in person or submit audition materials through the acceptd.com platform. Manhattanville prefers that all applicants within 100 miles of campus schedule an on-campus audition.

Audition Requirements for BFA  Musical Theatre

1. A musical theatre resume detailing when, where, and how long you have trained, your performance experience and any other skills you may have

2. A headshot and/or photo.

3.Transcripts from most recent schooling 

Applicants must perform a short contemporary monologue. Two contrasting songs, one up-tempo and one ballad, in different styles.  These may be of any length. 30-60 seconds of any style of dance. Applicants must also provide a headshot and resume.

For on-campus auditions, an accompanist will be provided, and applicants will go through a short dance call. 

BA Theatre 

Students wishing to major in Theatre must audition either in person or submit audition materials through the acceptd.com platform. Manhattanville prefers that all applicants within 100 miles of campus schedule an on-campus audition.

Audition Requirements for BA in Theatre

  • A theatre resume detailing when, where, and how long you have trained, your performance experience and any other skills you may have
  • A headshot and/or photo.
  • Transcripts from most recent schooling
 

Prepare two contrasting monologues (one contemporary and one classical).The two monologues should be no more than 3 minutes combined. One or both of them should involve strong physicality.

 

Nursing and Health Sciences Admissions

Admissions
Manhattanville participates in the Common Application Program. Students using the Common Application will be considered for admission in the same manner as students utilizing the Manhattanville University online or paper application.

 

Nursing Applicant Requirements - First Year, Traditional Candidates

  • Diploma from approved secondary school or High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Recommendation from a high school counselor or teacher
  • Personal statement or essay regarding why nursing is your choice of major
  • Graded C+ or better in high school Biology
  • Cumulative high school GPA of 2.75

Nursing Applicant Requirements - Transfer Candidates

Transfer Admissions Requirements
Current Manhattanville students in another major or students at other institutions can apply to the bachelor’s in nursing program as a transfer at any point. In addition to the application components listed above, transfer nursing applicants submit transcripts showing completion of the following prerequisites in order to be considered clinically ready: 

  • Intro to Psychology
  • Developmental Psychology (Lifespan)
  • Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credits with lab)
  • Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credits with lab)
  • Chemistry
  • Microbiology (4 credits with lab)
  • Statistics
  • College Level Math
  • Writing I
  • Writing II

For the science and psychology prerequisite courses, grades must be a C+ or better. Writing, statistics, and math courses must have a grade of C- or better. If the student has failed two prerequisite courses, their application requires approval from the Dean of Nursing.

Students who do not have the prerequisite courses completed can still apply to transfer as 'pre-clinically ready' and will focus on completing their remaining prerequisite courses prior to entering the clinical portion of the program. 

3. ATI TEAS exam with a composite score of proficient 74% or higher up request of the committee's review. Students may repeat the TEAS up to 2 times and submit best score.


Nursing Applicant Requirements - Second Degree Candidates

Applicants to the second-degree nursing program need to have a conferred bachelor’s degree as well as all of the pre-requisite courses completed with a grade of C+ or higher. 

  • 300-500 word essay on why you are pursuing a career in nursing at Manhattanville
  • College transcript(s) for ALL colleges attended, including degree conferral and completed/in progress pre-requisite courses
    • Unofficial transcripts may be used for the application, but please note we will need official transcripts if you are admitted to the program. 
  • One (1) professional or academic recommendation

Prerequisite Courses

The accelerated format of this nursing program requires applicants to have an adequate introduction to certain subjects. In these prerequisite courses you need to have received a grade of C+ or better and have not failed more than one pre-requisite. Please note that Principles of Human Genetics is not a pre-requisite. The following are prerequisite courses for the second degree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

  • Fundamentals of Psychology (3 credits minimum; 4 credits preferred)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
  • Chemistry with Lab (4 credits)
  • Developmental Psychology – Covering Lifespan (3 credits)
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab (4 credits)
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab (4 credits)
  • Microbiology with Lab (4 credits)

Imagining Leadership 

Prerequisites to begin the program in imaging leadership include coursework completed in a program licensed by credentialing bodies in imaging. The bachelor’s program offers a completion pathway for students who have already earned either:

  • An associate degree combined with a current license issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for Radiologic Technologists or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) for Ultrasound Technologists
  • A certificate accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or equivalent combined with a current license issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent

Students in the BS in Imaging Leadership program typically come from professional backgrounds in roles such as credentialed radiographer, nuclear medicine technologist, radiation therapist, or ultrasound technologist.

International Applicants

Manhattanville University is extremely proud of its long-standing history of having international students as active members of our community. Students from abroad are eligible for admission if they have completed, with good grades, the academic (classical) secondary school program offered in their country. Students transferring from a college or university in another country must also demonstrate an acceptable academic profile. Manhattanville offers academic (non-need based) scholarships to international applicants deemed to be eligible. All applicants who speak or write English as a second language are required to submit either the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System.) The minimum score required for consideration is 80 on the internet-based TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS. Official Test results must be sent to Manhattanville University. Information concerning these tests may be obtained directly by logging onto www.ets.org or www.ielts.org. Applicants seeking to begin studies in the fall semester (September) should submit applications and supporting credentials by April 1. All documents written in languages other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations.

The Admissions Office will not process applications until all supporting documents are received. Once an application is received and reviewed, a decision is forwarded to the applicant on a rolling basis.

Individuals with Disabilities

All applicants to Manhattanville University are considered equally, regardless of disability. Applicants are not required to disclose their disability and will not be asked to provide that information. Disclosure of a disability is voluntary. Transfer Students

Students from other institutions may be admitted either in the fall or spring semester provided they meet Manhattanville's admission requirements.

  • Transcripts- Unofficial transcripts may be provided or uploaded to receive an initial admissions decision. Official transcripts will be required to enroll. Official transcripts can be sent by mail or secure electronic delivery directly from your previous institution.
    • Applicants with fewer than 12 college credits- You must submit both your high school (or equivalent) and college / universities transcripts from each institution attended
    • Applicants with 12 or more college credits- You must submit college / universities transcripts from each institution attended
  • $75 Non-Refundable Application Fee
  • Optional supplemental materials including SAT or ACT scores, letters of recommendation, personal essay, resume, and personal interview. (in some cases these materials may be required)
    • if submitting test scores, our codes are: SAT - 2397; ACT - 2800
  • Transfer students may transfer up to 90 credit hours. However, one half of the courses for a major or minor must be completed at Manhattanville. 
  • Transfer students may enter either in the fall or spring semester and are required to submit official transcripts of all undergraduate coursework.  
  • Students interested in Art, Commercial Dance, Imagining Leadership,  Musical Theatre, Nursing, Radiologic Technology, or Theatre , Music Technology, Musical Theatre or Art should refer to procedures for acceptance in the appropriate department sections .

Acceptance Plans (Early Action and Rolling Admission)

Early Action: Manhattanville University offers an Early Action option for students who have decided that Manhattanville is their top choice.

  • Apply early for admission and be notified of our decision early. Stop wondering about the admissions process and start planning your freshman year.
  • Applications must be received by November 17th of your senior year in secondary school. 
    • To apply, check off the Early Action box on the application. 
    • Decisions will be communicated to students no later than January  
    • Upon admission to Manhattanville, you will have until May 1 to decide whether or not to attend and confirm your enrollment with a nonrefundable tuition deposit of:

      $500 for an incoming student

Rolling Admission: Manhattanville's Admissions Office will process applications throughout the year, as long as enrollment space remains available.

  • Priority deadline for students are:
  • March 1 for fall applicants
  • January 1 for spring applicants

Under the Rolling Admission Plan, fall candidates will receive an acceptance, denial or deferment on a rolling basis beginning in January once the candidate's file is complete. 

Accepted students must confirm their intention to attend by submitting their enrollment deposit fee of $500. Deposit fees are not refundable.

Advanced Standing and Credit by Examination

Students who have achieved a grade of 3, 4, or 5 on an Advanced Placement Test of the College Entrance Examination Board may receive anywhere from 3 to 8 credits per test toward their Manhattanville degree. If students wish to use these credits toward fulfillment of major requirements, they should consult with their academic advisor or review the Registrar’s official webpage for equivalencies. Students who have taken college courses while in high school may receive credit if the course is reported on a college transcript at a level of C- or above. The University will grant six semester hours of credit (for a maximum of 28 credits) for each examination taken at the Advanced (“A”) level of the British General Certificate of Education on which the student received a grade of C or better. Also, six semester hours of credit (for a maximum of 18 credits) will be granted for each Higher Level Examination in the International Baccalaureate Program on which a student has earned a score of 5, 6, or 7. Students may be granted at the time of matriculation a maximum of 12 semester hours of credit through subject examinations of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). Students who intend to transfer credits for courses taken at international institutions are required to provide evaluation reports (translated and verified with grade equivalencies) from agencies that prepare Foreign Academic Credential Evaluations (FACES). The evaluation must examine and equate all course work on a “course-by-course” basis and include grading equivalents to US colleges. Evaluators charge to have an evaluation prepared.
