ENG.2024 How to Read and Love Poems: 20th Century Poetry
This course introduces students to various historical, formal, critical, and thematic perspectives from which to understand and appreciate 20th century poetry. We will examine diverse poems and poets and examine works by reference to race, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality, film, and social media. Assignments may include poetry memorization, creative writing responses, analytical essays, interviews with poets, review essays, social media posts, anthologies, and multimedia presentations. Students will exit this course with a deeper awareness of how challenging and how delightful reading poetry can be!
