MSBM.5100 Social Media for the Sport and Entertainment Industry

This course will examine the tremendous impact social media has had on the sport and entertainment industry. Students will learn how organizations use social media platforms to communicate with and engage their audiences and fan bases, as well as how they utilize social media marketing campaigns to influence consumer choices and drive behavior. They will explore how social media has become a distribution vehicle for developers, brands, television networks, sports teams, and entrepreneurial individuals, etc. when it comes to providing entertainment. They will learn how a well-planned and consistent social media strategy can boost income from sponsorship, ticket sales, merchandise and other revenue streams. In addition, students will explore the wide array of emerging options being offered through social media channels, as social media continues to evolve from a platform once mainly focused on interpersonal communications and information sharing to one that today provides many with their primary source for news, advertising and even recreational game playing.
