EDU.5613 Teaching Writing and Thinking: Grades 5-12

This course offers the opportunity to develop an understanding of current research related to the teaching of writing and to apply the writing process in teaching writing in the middle or secondary classroom, including topic selection, drafting, conferencing, revising, editing, and publishing. Other topics include responding to and assessing student writing; writing in various genres and about various subjects; motivating students to write; sharing model texts for writers craft as read-alouds, including multicultural texts; management of writing workshops; and, consideration of sociocultural and gender perspectives. Field experience required. (Literacy Course)
