Distribution Requirements

SCIENCE (3 credits)

 SLO 1: Demonstrate an understanding of the methods scientists use to explore natural phenomena, such as inquiry, observation, hypothesis development, measurement and data collection, experimentation or evaluation of evidence.
 SLO 2: Explain, analyze or apply concepts in one of the natural sciences.
 MATH (3 credits)

 SLO 1: Demonstrate skill in carrying out mathematical procedures flexibly, accurately and efficiently to solve problems.

 SLO 2: Analyze mathematical arguments.

 SLO 3: Interpret information/data that has been presented in mathematical form.
 SLO 4: Represent information/data in mathematical form as appropriate.
 FINE ARTS (3 credits)
 SLO 1: Demonstrate competence in one or more of the creative/aesthetic techniques taught in the course.
 SLO 2: Follow a coherent creative process when engaging in creative/aesthetic work.
 HUMANITIES (6 credits)
 SLO 1: Recognize distinctive meanings, value and artifacts of humans when approached from the point of view of their culture.
 SLO 2: Articulate well organized arguments and interpretations.
 SOCIAL SCIENCES (6 credits)
 SLO 1: Explain, analyze and apply concepts from at least one of the disciplines in the social sciences.
 SLO 2: Be able to use reasoning and/or evidence to articulate clear, precise, well-organized thoughts, arguments, interpretations, and/or conclusions.
SECOND LANGUAGE (3 credits)
 SLO 1: Use a core vocabulary and grammatical structures that enable communication in the target language on an elementary level.

 SLO 2: Read and understand elementary level texts in the target language.

 SLO 3: Write with correct grammar at the elementary level in the target language.
 SLO 4: Identify products and practices to better understand intercultural perspectives and interact at survival level in familiar everyday context.
 GLOBAL (6 credits)

 SLO 1: Demonstrate a knowledge of dynamics (e.g., cultural, political, historic, economic, religious, social, scientific and/or artistic) across multiple regions of the world.

 SLO 2: Demonstrate understanding of the connections (e.g., cultural, exchange, imperialism, trade, migration, mobility and/or technology) that tie multiple regions of the world across time and space.

Competency Requirements

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

 SLO 1: Demonstrate the ability to write clearly and with grammatical accuracy in English.

 SLO 2: Produce written work that engages critically with sources, and quotes, paraphrases and cites this material ethically and correctly.
 SLO 3: Employ the vocabulary concepts and compositional techniques appropriate to the academic discipline.
 ORAL COMMUNICATION
 SLO 1: Communicate in clear, precise, well-organized speech that engages the audience.
 SLO 2: Use language appropriate to the subject and to the context of the communication.
 SLO 3: Demonstrate analytical and critical listening and questioning skills.
 ETHICS
 SLO 1: Demonstrate knowledge of common ethical principles and dilemmas in one's academic discipline.
 SLO 2: Demonstrate knowledge of the ways in which ethical principles inform best practices in one's discipline.
 SLO 3: Demonstrate knowledge and application of general ethical principles in one's interactions in the classroom.
 TECHNOLOGY
 SLO 1: Identify and utilize technological tools relevant to the discipline.

Experiential Learning

 SLO 1: Students will gain soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, collaboration, professionalism and leadership that will prepare them for success in the workplace.
 SLO 2: Students will be able to apply skills and theory learned at Manhattanville to practical experiences beyond the classroom.
 SLO 3: Students will demonstrate socially responsible awareness, attitude and knowledge required to equitably engage and include people from different local and global cultures.
