Criminal Law

Introduction & Overview

The study of Criminal Law at Manhattanville provides students with the foundations for understanding the American criminal justice system. Classes focus on varied political, legal, psychological, sociological and cultural dimensions of criminal behavior and criminal and social justice, as well as the constitutional, philosophical, and ethical issues involved in law enforcement. Students build career-based skills, including reading and interpreting statutes , regulations, judicial decisions, and case law. Students also learn to craft legal briefs and to make persuasive and effective written arguments. In-class oral arguments, and mock trial exercises give students the chance to practice their skills as advocates and judges.
