Sport Performance and Motivation (minor only)

Introduction & Overview

The union of sport and psychology offers a rich area of study that focuses on how mental and emotional factors impact athletic performance, exploring subjects such as motivation, self-confidence, leadership and team building, goal setting, performance, and much more. This minor provides students with a foundational understanding of the psychological components of sport and exercise participation and peak performance, preparing them for careers as coaches, sport practitioners, physical education teachers, and sport administrators, as well as in the performing arts. Students who add the minor to a psychology or a sport studies major will be able to carve paths to graduate studies in sport psychology, physical education, wellness, sport pedagogy, and coaching; adding a pre-health track could help support a career in athlete training or physical therapy.
